The Angelique Perotta story was sent to us via email in the fall of 1997. We later received a scanned newspaper article, and the photographs of Angelique. We have tried, but have been unable to independently verify the details of the story, and had thus presented it as a potentially fictionalized account representative of the hundreds of confirmed tragedies that we know about, and the thousands of others which we do not.

The story was apparently translated into several other languages without the above disclaimer and appears to have caused some confusion. This was unintentional on our part and we apologize for any difficulties that may have resulted. For the time being we are removing the story and are requesting that the author please contact us so that we can clarify matters and obtain independent verification of the story.

That the WTS blood policy has resulted in the deaths of numerous children is a fact. Donning the cover of the May 22, 1994 Awake! magazine are the photos of 26 children, ages varying up to 17 years, with the caption: "Youths Who Put God First." Inside the magazine proclaims: "In former times thousands of youths died for putting God first. They are still doing it, only today the drama is played out in hospitals and courtrooms, with blood transfusions the issue." (page 2) The feature article on page 9 titled 'Youths Who Have "Power Beyond What Is Normal"' tells the stories of three of these children who died after refusing blood treatment.

Alfonso Cáceres Villamizar is another recent example of a Witness child who died as a result of the WTS blood policy. His story was recently told on Colombian television news magazine.
