Alliance for Jehovah’s Witness Research and Bioethics

The Alliance for Jehovah’s Witness Research and Bioethics (AJWRB) is an independent research and educational organization dedicated to advancing informed, autonomous, and ethically sound medical decision-making. Working at the intersection of institutional ethics and clinical bioethics, AJWRB examines how organizational authority, evolving normative frameworks, and information asymmetries shape patient autonomy, informed consent, and healthcare decision-making, using Jehovah’s Witnesses as a principal case study.

Our mission is to provide rigorous scholarship, clinical guidance, and educational resources for healthcare professionals, ethicists, legal practitioners, and policymakers worldwide. Through research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and cross-cultural patient advocacy, we equip clinicians and institutions to navigate complex cases involving religiously informed treatment decisions, evaluate the ethical implications of institutional change, and ensure that medical decisions reflect patients’ contemporaneous values, understanding, and voluntary choices.
